Building blocks for revival

Last week I was reading in Nehemiah 3 and 4 and was struck by how perfectly it depicts the revival that is happening in our world today. We have seen glimpses of revival on a macro-scale with the “Let Us Worship” protests along the coast as well as believers protesting racial injustice and child trafficking by worshipping in the streets. These demonstrations have been so moving and encouraging for us but we know that true revival starts at the micro-level.

It sparks in a heart and spreads to a home before it sets the world on fire. In this passage, Israelite exiles have returned from Babylon are rebuilding the broken wall of Jerusalem. But they don’t commission a group of builders to do it. And they don’t wait for the priests to initiate it either. Each individual, each family is responsible for re-building a portion of the wall. It’s the same with revival. Are there broken pieces in our hearts and in our homes? This is not a job we commission out to counselors or pastors to repair. We surrender them to Jesus and let the Holy Spirit repair them. He WANTS to and He WILL!

Will we face opposition as we rebuild? YES. And that is why, as we re-build, we labor on the work with one hand and hold our weapon with the other just as the Israelites did when repairing the wall. God’s Word is the mighty sword that will protect us as we rebuild.

Then once our wall is repaired, like the Israelites in verse 13, we “station ourselves” “in the open places” and STAND IN THE GAP for others facing opposition as they rebuild their walls and fight for them in prayer. In verse 14 it says, “Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.”

Rebuilding starts with community that builds each other up. When dedicating to a different rebuilding project in Zechariah 4, Zerubbabel is encouraged by the Lord to “not despise the day of small beginnings.” We believe that communities dedicated to personal revival will spark revival that will set the world on fire.

Join us for an 8 week series as we study the Biblical patterns for personal and corporate revival. Each week we will share a new blog post with application questions for us to pray through. We will dive deeper into these themes on a community Zoom call, Fridays at 8pm. Send us your email (via the contact tab or DM on instagram) and we will send you the weekly posts and invites to the video calls.

If we want to see revival spark in the world we have to say, “Lord, spark revival in me.” We can’t wait to start this with you!
